1902 Unable to read first name in register with high degree of certainty. However, an extract of Pamment births (1862-1890) supplied by Sue Ayre lists Bertie Frank Pamment, birth registered Bury St. Edmunds district, 3 quarter 1887, 4a 692.

----------
Apparently a member of the family recorded births and deaths on a page from a diary - probably written after Feb 1904. Bertie Frank's birth recorded as August 1st 1887 and his death as Nov. 20th 1887 aged 3 months and 20 days.

1908 Was also known as Bertha or Berta in some documents.

Regarding her birth place - officially known by its German name, Stanislau, it was located in the region of the Austro-Hungarian Empire called Galicia of Austria-Hungary. Because of the large ethnic Polish population, the Polish town name, Stanislawow, was colloquially used by many people, in its shortened version of Stanislaw (pronounced Stanislav). The Austro-Hungarian Empire (and the province caled Galicia) ceased to exist after the end of World War I, and the city found itself within the borders of newly formed Poland, with the official name of Stanislawow. In 1941, Poland ceded this territory to the Ukrainian region of the Soviet Union, and the town name was changed to Ivano-Frankowsk. In 1991, after glastnost, Ukraine became the first state to separate from the USSR, and the town adopted its current name, Ivano-Frankivsk.

1917 While listed in the 1891 census as "Mary Ann" - this appears to be an enumerator error as in the 1871 and 1881 census, her name is Sarah Ann. Sarah Ann Maynard
1918 While there is a birth registered September 1875 - PAMMENT Frederick Newmarket district, volumbe 3b page 557 - this does not appear to be a match for several reasons. One - his brother's birth registered the next quarter. Two - believe it should have been registered in Cambridge district, not Newmarket.

- 1881 census for St. Andrew the Less, Cambridge has Frederick William, age 6, living with family at #58 Gwydar St.

- 1891 Census for U.K. - "List of the Officers, Crew, Royal Marines and of all other persons on board the night of Sunday, April 5, 1891:

From his Royal Navy record:

Portsmouth
Name: Frederick William Pamment
Date of birth: 24 August 1875 (Note: may be incorrect)
Place of birth: St. Andrews, Cambridge
Occupation: Bricklayer

Date and period of C. S. engagements: 24 August 1893 12 years

There are two age & description entries - but can not make out age of first entry.

Second entry:
Age: 18
Height: 5 ft 4 in
Hair: Brown
Eyes: Brown
Complexion: Ruddy
Wounds, scars, marks: Rings on fingers of left hand

Note: Despite the 1893 date above, the service record clearly starts with 1891and duty as a Boy 2nd class aboard the HMS Boscawen, a training ship for boy seamen at Portland.

Served on:
- HMS Barracouta, a cruiser
- HMS Raleigh, which refers to a training establishment located in Cornwall.
- HMS Majestic (if only for a week in Dec. 1895!) The third Majestic (1895) of four in history, a pre-Dreadnought battleship of the Majestic class, sunk by U 21 in 1915.
- HMS Revenge, launched in 1892, was a Royal Sovereign-class battleship, renamed Redoubtable in 1913.
- HMS Excellent - a Royal Navy shore establishment sited on Whale Island near Portsmouth, Hampshire.
- HMS Powerful. Along with her sister ship HMS Terrible made up the Powerful Class of large cruisers.

Note: From reading the record, it appears he may have been in "prison" for a week in Portsmouth in 1897. It states "Entered from prison." This probably would have been for a minor offense.

The record ends at 1897.

From the following web site I obtained details about Charles Coll - Livingston County Michigan WWI Honor Roll (http://www.livgenmi.com/ww1veteranorganizations.htm) -

"Charles was a founding member of the American Legion Post in Fowlerville. Regarding the history of the post - Orson A. Rose Post No. 215, Fowlerville, Michigan, was established almost entirely thru the efforts of Charles Coll, a charter member and the first adjutant of the post. Mr. Coll was the first man to be inspired with the thought that a post could be organized in our small village. He laid his plans before two of the present charter members and they readily agreed to help him. At once information was written for and received.
In order to obtain a charter, fifteen members were necessary. This was accomplished in one week. It was agreed the first meeting would be held on Tuesday night, 11 November 1919. At that meeting each charter member became a committee of one to register new members. So successful has been the work in our small community that by the end of 1919 we had a membership of 37.

At the first meeting, the name of the post was declared, the ORSON A. ROSE POST NO. 215, in memory of an old friend, a member of the 126th Infantry, 32nd Division, who was killed over there. The men elected temporary officers from their midst: Post Commander, Major I. Bravener; First Vice-Commander, Ray Sherwood; Second Vice-Commander, Lloyd E. Copeland; Post Adjutant, Chas. H. Coll; Post Finance Officer, Orla Don Risdon; Post Historian, Percy A. Dunn; Post Chaplain, Flex B. Smith.

These men with the following were the charter members of the post: Deo M. Blackmer, Lester F. Huff, William Ireland, Chas. Jackson, Andrew Linquist, J. D. Lockwood, Oscar Dan Rose, B. Tobin.

The foundation for the American Legion found birth and growth in Fowlerville very successful, and long may it continue."

1901 CENSUS:

Probable for Mary E. Pamment in the 1901 Census. It is believed that this is Mary Elizabeth (Martin) Pamment, wife of Benjamin for the following reasons:

1. She is a married servant with no apparent husband in the household. A Benjamin Pamment, also a married servant with no apparent wife in the household, was found in 1901 census. Conclusion is that they were living apart shortly after having been married (1899).

2. She is located in Elm, Cambridgeshire. A son (Benjamin - 1901) was born in Coldham Elm.
